Playing Fields & Recreation Areas
Cheddleton Parish Council manages several playing fields and recreation areas across the parish, providing free outdoor facilities for residents of all ages.
Cheddleton Playing Field (Main Village Field)
The main playing field in Cheddleton covers approximately 11 acres and is located in the centre of the village. Facilities include modern play equipment for children aged 5 years and over, including an aerial ropeway, swings and a multi-play climbing tower, as well as a separate securely fenced play area for children aged 1 to 4 years.
For sporting activities, the field provides a full-size football pitch, a quarter-size five-a-side junior pitch, and two full-size tennis courts, one of which has recently been resurfaced.
Please note that the football pitch may only be used by prior arrangement with the Council’s Playing Field Management Committee, usually by a team for the full season.
Bridge Eye Play Area
A smaller play area is located at Bridge Eye, alongside the River Churnet at the junction of Cheadle Road and Station Road. This area includes swings and play equipment suitable for younger children.
Memorial Garden
The memorial garden is situated on the site of the former bowling green and provides a quiet planted area for reflection. At its centre is a memorial to Rodney Hine and his partner’s children, Samantha, Patricia and Marcus Carter, who were tragically killed in a house fire in the village in March 2006.
Wetley Rocks Playing Field
Cheddleton Parish Council also manages a playing field in the Wetley Rocks ward, situated in the centre of the village between the A520 and Randles Lane. The field includes play equipment for younger children and a full-size soccer pitch.
Toll Bar Playing Field
The Toll Bar playing field, located at Withystakes, is set against open countryside and includes play equipment for younger children, a five-a-side soccer pitch and an aerial adventure course.
